Costa Rica National Parks

Costa Rica has been known for its natural environment and the diversity of the bio-life there. The government of the country and the tourism sector has all joined hands to help in preserving these things with the help of their National parks. However, like most other country there have been a lot of deforestation and loss of these precious things. Nevertheless, Costa Rica has been more successful than other countries in conserving a lot more than losing. The attempt made by the country is indeed laudable.

The attempt of preserving these natural resources was commenced in the year 1970. It was in this year that the authorities and the people of the country realized that there was a gradual reduction in the natural world in Costa Rica. This was their national treasure and pride and losing it would mean a great loss to the country.

This is when the national park system was pioneered and this endeavor received global acclaim. At present there are several areas that are special protected in the country. Out of the 186 protected regions you are likely to find about 30 national parks. The others are forest reserves, wildlife conservation areas and biological reserves.

Benefits of the National Parks

There are several benefits of having these national parks in Costa Rica. Firstly, they provide a major tourist attraction. The beauty and splendor that you can witness here go beyond the imagination. You can get a closer look at nature and have an intimate association with it.

If you are keenly interested in the study of nature you can satisfy your thirst for knowledge at these national parks. Besides, providing knowledge and sightseeing options these national parks help in soil conservation and are great watersheds too.

Also, these national parks provide a natural habitat for a huge host of bio-life that is nearing its extinction in other parts of the world. These national parks can account for about two-third of the nation’s biodiversity.

To be more precise there are 26 national parks in Costa Rica right now. These parks are under the management of the Sistema Nacional Areas de Conservacion or the SINAC. This is a Costa Rican department of environment of energy. This step that the country has taken towards the preservation of the nature has been regarded as an exemplary step for numerous other nations. The study of nature that have been facilitated by these national parks center around topics like tropical forests, swamps and marshes, rainforests and aquatic regions.

Various techniques have been used to make sure that the national park system in Costa Rica is successful. A major technique used was the incorporation of the participation of the masses. The public was granted a part of the right to take decisions so that there is a personal involvement on their part.

The entire Costa Rica national park system was segregated into 11 distinct regions for preservation. There is a headquarter for each region and a proper hierarchy is created in order to act promptly whenever the need arises.  Each of these regions must take responsibility for their own funds and finance.

Hence, it may be so that certain conservation regions are financially sound while others are not. Let us take a look at some of the well-known national parks in these 11 regions.
